The situation in Lebanon has rapidly deteriorated and turned into an acute humanitarian crisis. For thousands of families, a sense of security has vanished overnight, replaced by a daily life marked by fear, displacement, and uncertainty.
Children are hit the hardest. Today, more than 300,000 children are living as refugees in Lebanon, without security or stability. Many lack access to healthcare, food, and a safe place to sleep. Instead they face hunger, trauma, and a reality where childhood is no longer about play and security, but about getting through the day.
At the same time, more than 100 children have been killed and hundreds injured in just a few weeks. For many children, there is no longer a daily routine, no school, no home, and no safe place.
A growing humanitarian crisis
The ongoing crisis, combined with an already strained economic situation, has created an acute emergency. Over a million people have been forced to leave their homes and are now living in temporary shelters, schools, and on the streets.
The need is growing rapidly and continues to increase every day. More and more families lack the bare necessities for survival.
Nordisk Hjälp on location
Nordisk Hjälp has been working in the region since 2005 and is currently on the ground in Lebanon to address urgent needs.
Together with local partners, we carry out initiatives directly on the ground to ensure that aid reaches those most in need.
Operation carried out in Saida
As part of our emergency response, we carried out an operation in Saida, where internally displaced people had taken shelter in schools.
During the operation, the following items were distributed:
- 284 mattresses
- 284 blankets
- 1,137 hot meals
The initiative was aimed at families who had lost their homes and lacked access to basic resources.
Effects of the initiative
Through these efforts, we have been able to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable families and orphaned children. We have helped protect children from illnesses linked to cold weather and harsh living conditions, and provided people with access to heat, food, and basic security.
The initiative has also helped restore a sense of dignity in an otherwise very vulnerable situation.
The need continues to grow
Despite the efforts that have been made, the needs remain great. More families lack the bare necessities, and the situation is getting worse by the day.
More resources are needed to continue this work.
