Nordisk Hjälp conducts long-term humanitarian work in Mozambique, where education is a central part of its efforts. Through school projects, support towards water supply, and support for basic social services, the organization works to strengthen conditions for children and local communities in areas with significant needs.
Schools as a foundation for long-term development
Through the work of Nordisk Hjälp, two schools have been built in Lichinga in northern Mozambique. Today, the schools provide around 460 students with access to education in functional and safer school environments, together with dedicated teachers. Access to education is crucial for children's futures and for the long-term development of local communities.
In parallel with the two completed schools, preparations are now underway for the construction of another school in Lichinga. This is a major project that will meet a growing need for educational facilities and create better conditions for teaching through more classrooms, school desks, sanitary solutions, and an improved working environment for teachers.
Water as a prerequisite for everyday life and education
Access to water is crucial for both health and education. In the village of Lijego, Nordisk Hjälp has helped to build a well that provides access to water for around 5,000 people in a community of approximately 15,000 inhabitants.
In addition to its efforts in Lijego, Nordisk Hjälp has also built several wells in Lichinga and the surrounding areas. The wells have helped to reduce the distance to clean water for many households and are an important part of the work to improve basic living conditions in the region.
Urgent measures in a long-term context
In connection with its work in Lijego, Nordisk Hjälp has also contributed to food distribution for 150 families and clothing distribution for 500 children. These efforts have been carried out to meet urgent needs in an area where many people live with limited resources.
The greatest needs in Lijego and the surrounding areas are access to water, food, education, healthcare, and clothing. These needs are closely interlinked, and the work in Mozambique is therefore characterized by a holistic approach where both immediate and long-term humanitarian efforts are needed.
A cohesive effort for the future
Through investments in schools in Lichinga, water supply, and basic support, Nordisk Hjälp continues its work to strengthen the resilience of local communities and create better future opportunities in Mozambique. Education is and remains a central part of this work.
