Access to reliable information and strong media literacy are important components of a functioning society. In Syria, journalists and media workers operate in a complex and rapidly changing reality, where technological developments and new digital tools present both challenges and opportunities.
Nordisk Hjälp's projects in journalism and AI are part of our long-term humanitarian work with capacity development and knowledge-building initiatives.
About the project
The project is being carried out in collaboration with Syria's General Radio and Television Authority, the company TOT, and the AI platform Tabbashoura. Together we are working to strengthen the skills of journalists and media workers at the intersection of journalism and new technology.
The training program is led by Khaled Taha, an AI specialist, and is aimed at approximately 350 journalists and media workers in Damascus and Idlib. Through training and practical exercises, participants are given the tools to understand, use, and relate to AI in their journalistic work.
Why journalism and AI?
For Nordisk Hjälp , humanitarian work is not only about emergency response, but also about strengthening communities' own capacity to function over time. Access to knowledge, information, and expertise is a central part of this work.
Digitalization and AI are increasingly influencing how information is produced, disseminated, and interpreted. In contexts where the information environment is complex and vulnerable, it is particularly important that journalists and media professionals have the right tools, knowledge, and understanding of these changes.
Through its work with journalism and AI, Nordisk Hjälp contributes long-term capacity development in the media sector as part of our broader humanitarian work for stability, accountability, and sustainable social structures.
Part of Nordisk Hjälp's humanitarian work
Nordisk Hjälp views access to knowledge and skills as a key part of humanitarian work. The journalism and AI project is not an isolated effort, but part of our broader work to strengthen social structures and create long-term conditions in complex environments.
Through education and capacity development, we help give people better tools to navigate their reality today and in the long term.
